The guide will help you find and identify the birds seen and heard on the tours. You'll also gain insight into the exciting world of birds and their lifes. You'll gain practical knowledge about field identification and how to get to know the birds. Why Not Birds? is all about birds and creating unique, present and educational bird experiences in a relaxed and authentic setting - we look forward to taking you along!”

Where and when

We organize birdwatching tours in Denmark and Sweden - primarily on the island Møn, at Lolland-Falster, South and West Zealand, in the Copenhagen/capital area and North Zealand and in Southern Sweden. There are birding experiences all year round, which is why we arrange birding trips when it suits you - or you - whether it's during the holidays, at the weekend or on a weekday.

For whom

Our birding tours are for everyone - from the beginner to the experienced birdwatcher - we customize the birding tour! You don't have to be a birdwatcher, we also organize birdwatching tours for you - who are considering birdwatching as a new hobby. Or for those who want to know more about the birds you see and hear in your surroundings. Or maybe you're a family on vacation and want to try something new and have a different experience. If you are a birdwatcher, we can also organize tours for you. Maybe you're a group of birdwatchers who need a refresh on bird songs and calls - or just want to benefit from our knowledge of birds and our local knowledge of exciting bird locations. We also organize shorter or longer birdwatching trips for foreign birdwatchers visiting Denmark for either holiday or work.

Duration and activity level

We organize tours tailored to our participants. That's why we offer short birding trips (1 - 2 hours), half-day trips (3 - 5 hours) and full-day trips (6 - 10 hours). The activity level ranges from 'easy birding' to 'hardcore birding'! Short birding trips are suitable for beginners and those with little time to spare. Half- and full-day trips are for those who have more time available and want more time in the field - for example, more time to cover a larger bird area or time to visit multiple locations in one day.

Number of participants

Small groups - the perfect choice for those who like to travel alone or with a few friends or family. When we do private birdwatching tours, it's always in small or smaller groups - or just with you alone. We believe that birding trips with few participants provide the best experience for all participants. There is more opportunity for participants to see, hear and experience the birds, all participants have and receive the guide's attention, and the learning opportunities are better, for example on bird identification. Tours in small and smaller groups are also less disruptive to the birds and surroundings.

If you are a larger group

Don´t worry! We can also organize birdwatching tours for larger groups, such as association or company trips. Contact us to hear about the possibilities.

Language

Our private guided birdwatching tours are conducted in either Danish or English. Your guide also understands and speaks some German and Spanish, as well as Swedish and Norwegian. Along the way, it is possible to translate bird names into a number of other languages along the way.

Planned and open to all bird walks

In addition to private bird tours, we occasionally announce and organize bird tours that are open to everyone - Open Bird Tours. This means that the participants on these tours do not necessarily know each other beforehand. The number of participants is limited and registration and ticket purchase is necessary and is on a first come, first served basis. Why Not Birds? offers different birding trips of varying duration and activity level - birding trips that we would go on ourselves. All birding trips are planned and targeted according to the participants, the birding location, the time of year and the birds we expect to see. Our planned and open birding trips are advertised on various digital online media (including our website and social media platforms).

If you have planned a trip yourself

If you have planned - or are planning - a trip for yourself or with friends and family, why not book a bird guide to join you for a unique experience and gain knowledge and insight into the birds around you?

No two birdwatching trips or days are ever the same

When birdwatching, weather, wind and light conditions in particular affect which birds and how many you see or hear on each trip. The time of day can have a big impact, as many birds are often most active in the morning hours, and again at the end of the day, while owls, for example, are usually active after dark. In addition to weather conditions and time of day, the time of year - or season - is also important. Some bird species are resident and can be seen all year round, while others are migratory or winter visitors and therefore only seen at certain times of the year. At the same time, some bird species are common and numerous, others are few or rare, and some occur in specific habitats and habitats. We try to organize each birding trip according to the current bird abundance and weather conditions. This also means that small adjustments and changes can be made during the birding trip itself. You never know what birding experiences await you out there - and that's what makes birding fun and exciting!

Your guide and tour leader

I am a passionate birder who loves to share and spread knowledge about birds. And in my opinion, the best and most fun way to do that is through experiences in the field! I have always had a fascination and interest in birds. At an early age, I became involved in fieldwork and various activities related to birds and ornithology - including education and guiding. I have been an observer and ringer at bird observatoreies in Denmark and Sweden, and am involved in bird monitoring and bird ringing. I hold a master degree in environmental biology and geography from Roskilde University, and in addition to my work with Why Not Birds? I also work as a nature guide at GeoCenter Møns Klint. There I impart knowledge about physical geography, geology and biodiversity to both school students and Danish and foreign tourists. On my birding tours, it's important to me that it should be fun and exciting and take place in a cozy atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. My goal is to give my guests an unforgettable and educational experience in nature - and inspire interest in birds! Do you want to experience the wonderful world of birds? Then why not go birdwatching with me as your guide! Uffe Damm Andersen
