Birdwatching by bike - Kalvebod Fælled (Vestamager)
Experience the exciting bird life close to the city. Join a birdwatching tour by bike at Kalvebod Fælled - also known as Vestamager - with a bird guide. At Vestamager you will find one of the most important wetlands in Eastern Denmark. The area houses large populations of breeding and resting ducks and waders. It is also an important resting area for birds of prey - especially during fall and winter. Vestamager was formed during the Second World War, when the shallow area west of Amager's then coast was dammed. The area was for many years a military area, but is today a very important nature and recreational area. Today, Vestamager is a mosaic of grazed meadows, self-sown birch forest, willow thickets, lakes and wetlands. Especially Klydesøreservat, Hejresøen, the areas around Storehøj and Villahøj, Birkedammen and Pinseskoven among the particularly interesting places for birds. In addition, Kalveboderne and Kalvebodløbet between Amager and Zealand are good places for ducks in winter. Vestamager is a large area and the bird life can therefore be advantageously experienced by bike. The biking tour will take place on dirt roads and roads/paths which are asphalted. We cycle at a leisurely pace and stop at several places during the tour to look for birds. Depending on which tour is agreed, we expect to cover a distance of approx. 6 - 18 kilometers.
