Lake Gåsesøen
Birdlife in the lake and alder swamp
Birdlife in the lake and alder swamp
On this tour, we will experience the birds at the Goose Lake (in Danish Gåsesøen), which is always worth a visit. We will observe the birds from a bird hide, from where there is a good view of the lake and the surrounding meadows and forest edges. On the way to the bird hide, we walk on a boardwalk through the exciting alder swamp. All year-round, the Goose Lake attracts many dabbling and diving ducks and other waterfowl such as Coots, grebes, and herons. The many ducks also attracts White-tailed Eagle and Peregrine Falcon that often can be seen by the lake. In summer, both the Red-necked and Little Grebe breed in the lake as several species of dabbling ducks. During winter months, especially Tufted Ducks, Pochard and a few Greater Scaups rest on the water during the daytime. In the alder swamp many birds, especially songbirds and other passerines are searching for food in the trees all year round. We offer a short tour of one-hour duration or a longer tour of two hours. The two-hour tour is a longer walk that includes a visit to the dike from where we will watch birds in the bay and the marshes of Horsnæs.
